Here are some things to consider when looking for a campervan and how to find the perfect one for your next trip.
Our holidays needed to change
Before lockdown, we decided if I was serious about changing my career, we would need to revise our budgets. Our largest expense was holidays abroad.
The plan would be for my partner to support my career change. I could suspend my consultancy temporarily while focussing on my new career. We had to tame the holidays abroad for the next few years, because of my drop in income.
Holidays in a campervan have always been something we’ve wanted to do. We love the idea of the freedom and spontaneity that comes with hitting the open road. For years, we went on road trips around different holiday destinations, and the idea of owning a campervan appealed.
Thankfully, we found the perfect compromise — a small holiday home on wheels that we could take with us wherever we went. It’s been the best decision we’ve ever made and has allowed us to holiday in a way that suits us perfectly.
I was already obsessed with tiny houses, micro-apartments, and small interior design spaces to help maximize our apartment. This naturally led to looking at campervans or boats.
Researching Information
It's easy to feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information available when you’re looking at campervans.
That’s what I did when I started looking into van life. We watched countless videos of people’s conversions and travels and followed along with the van life community on social media. This allowed us to get a sense of what was possible and narrow down options to find the perfect campervan.
